Charles “Chazz” Smith’s house
927 Sheridan Avenue North
Where Prince jammed with family and friends
This was the home of Charles “Chazz” Smith, Prince’s cousin and musical collaborator. Grand Central—Prince's earliest band—had its roots here. Prince and Charles would jam in the den above the garage, and neighborhood kids would come and listen to their music and dance in the streets.
The Smith family purchased this home from the parents of prominent Twin Cities lawyer, Ron Meshbesher. Ron's father, Nate also helped Charles's father get a job with the City of Minneapolis.
